Chapter 01
Understanding the Problem
Why implementation is harder than it looks — and why traditional approaches stall.
Current industry context
Strategy documents describe destinations. Implementation is the road. Venues frequently underinvest in the road, treating it as an execution detail rather than a strategic capability, and pay for it in delays and disappointment.
Why traditional approaches fall short
Traditional implementation approaches — heavy consulting engagements, phased platform rollouts, big-bang launches — often do not fit venue operating rhythms. Venues need implementation patterns designed for cross-functional teams that also have to run the venue every day.
The market context
As venues invest more in audience infrastructure and recurring revenue, implementation quality becomes a competitive difference. Well-implemented programs pull ahead quickly; poorly implemented ones stall and get replaced.
